A detox can be of two different kinds
The Physical Detox is where you heal your body. You go on a fast, you eat healthy, drink lots of juices, get massages and generally make sure that all signs of your decadence and debauchery are washed away. By the end of such an endeavor, you feel refreshed and rejuvenated. You feel healthy, clean and well, detoxed.
The Soul Detox is one most of us don't undertake regularly, because unfortunately, most of us don't even know about it. A majority of us are unaware of this second, and critically more important, type of detox. The objective here is to heal the soul, clean up the aura and expand the size of our magnetic field.
We go through a range of emotions in our lives. We feel anger, pain, sorrow, grief, jealousy, guilt and a myriad of similar negative energies. What we don't know is that all of these emotions get stored in our body. The heart stores your grief, your hips store anger, the area around your neck is the warehouse for stress, your back stores your fears and so on.
Unless we, as human beings, knowingly and consciously donââ¬â¢t clean up these storage vaults, these energies start to putrefy, decay and transform themselves into diseases like cancer, diabetes, arthritis and the like. It is incumbent upon us, therefore, to undertake this spiritual detox. And undertake it regularly.
Kundalini Yoga and the Spiritual Detox
From meditation to yoga and tai chi to vipassana and silent retreats, I'd tried everything to rid my soul of all the anger it had accumulated in this lifetime. The results would be so frustrating that it only made matters worse, sometimes making me wonder if so much of anger was a collection of only one lifetime or a collection of many previous unhappy, violent lives.
Failing at every level and recourse, I finally landed up in a Kundalini Yoga class with Gurmukh at the International Yoga Festival in Rishikesh. This was to be the turning point in my life. Barely five minutes into the workshop,
I knew that I had finally come home. Immediately after, I signed up for the teacher training course, and am now a certified Kundalini Yoga teacher.
The Spiritual Detox process
It was an intensive 45-day course set in the beautiful Parmarth Niketan ashram in Rishikesh. There were a 130 of us. We woke up at 3am, had a cold shower (in -1 degree weather), and were at the meditation hall by 4am for our morning 'Sadhana'. The rest of the day was equally intense. Kriyas, chants, meditation and other exercises specific to Kundalini Yoga filled our time.
And I cried.
Every single day of my training was a healing process. A journey deep into my own soul, into my being. I was led from one dark hole in the abyss of my life to another. I saw events in my life that I had buried so deep inside of me that I had forgotten about them altogether.
And I cried some more.
The crying, weeping, sobbing and wailing were an integral part of 'The Cleanse', the Spiritual Detox. On every one of those 45 days, I felt lighter, happier and calmer than I had ever felt in my entire life.
Upon my return to my city, Mumbai, my friends did not recognize me at first glance. The first thing everyone said to me was, "you look so calm, so happy".
I have since been sharing this wonderful knowledge. It was a gift to me that came without any conditions, but once I received it, I knew, deep inside, that I now had the responsibility of sharing this gift with humanity for the rest of my life.
In the next part of this blog post, I will talk about a realization that hit me almost two years after completing my course. It is a realization that was a revelation, a surprise, and a beautiful experience, all rolled into one beautiful package. Don't miss it for the world.

In texts written thousands of years ago that are found in Indian philosophy, there is very clear and defined mention of Kalyug.
